This committee will develop a common architecture based on the Earth System Modeling Framework (ESMF) and coding standards as necessary to accelerate transition of research and avoid unnecessary duplication of effort.
This committee will define a common physical architecture that enables greater interoperability of specific physical earth system prediction components. The physical architecture is defined as the scientific scope of components - what processes they include - and the relationship of components to each other in the modeling system.

This committee was formed to modernize the Kalnay rules, guidelines developed in 1989 to help facilitate the interchange of Fortran subroutines for physical parameterizations. Modernizing the Kalnay rules addresses changes in computational hardware and software needed for operational NWP:

This committee is developing a software driver interface that will allow for the incorporation of physical parameterizations into operational and research NWP models in a more efficient and standardized matter.
Content Standards Committee Terms of Reference
This committee will establish commitment of the NUOPC OPCs for implementation, upgrade, operation, and management of the NUE. It will review the operational processes at NCEP, FNMOC, and AFWA. Monitor implementation of the NUE operational schedule including
It will present evaluation results to the ESG (for oversight) and OPC (for approaval)
Make resource estimates for implementation of selected products
Coordinate UEO upgrades
Review and recommend to the ESG NUE requirements for computational and communications infrastructure.

The Model Component Liaison committee is charged with advancing the readiness and reliability of components that have standard ESMF/NUOPC Layer interfaces and are part of the Earth System Prediction Suite. Model Component Liaison Committee Terms of Reference
This committee will identify ongoing partner research and development efforts to coupled global atmosphere-ocean-land-sea ice models. the committee will assess the status of these efforts and identify the issues affecting progress for these efforts. The committee will identify skill metrics and establish skill goals for mesoscale/synoptic to seasonal coupled prediction systems. The committee will promote discussions on the science of coupled modeling, details of coupling configurations and other key scientific and technical issues.
Coupled Global Modeling Charter
This committee examines the current and future High Performance Computing (HPC) architecture needs to meet the requirements of current and future Earth System Modeling Applications. These requirements will include both legislated/externally documented requirements and internally perceived requirements to research and operationally Earth System Models now and in the future.
