NATIONAL OCEANIC
and ATMOSPHERIC
ADMINISTRATION

Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) of NOAA Research:  Provides the research foundation for understanding the complex systems that support our planet. Working in partnership with other organizational units of NOAA; NOAA Research enables better forecasts, earlier warnings for natural disasters, and a greater understanding of the Earth. Their role is to provide unbiased science to better manage the environment, nationally, and globally.

National Weather Service (NWS): Provide weather, water, and climate data, forecasts and warnings for the protection of life and property and enhancement of the national economy. NWS's vision is to create a Weather-Ready Nation: Society is Prepared for and Responds to Weather-Dependent Events.

Oceanographer of the Navy: The Oceanographer of the Navy advises the Chief of Naval Operations on all issues related to oceanography, meteorology, hydrography, precise time, climate change, the Arctic, maritime domain awareness and geospatial and celestial referencing. The Oceanographer as the senior policy adviser for issues related to national ocean policy and governance.

Office of Naval Research:  The Ocean Battlespace and Expeditionary Access Department (code 32) explores science and technology in the areas of oceanographic and meteorological observations, modeling and prediction in the battlespace environment; and undersea warfare in both the ocean and littoral environment.

Air Force

AIR FORCE

557th Weather Wing: The mission of the 557th Weather Wing is maximizing America's power through the exploitation of timely, accurate and relevant weather information; anytime, everywhere. The wing is focused on developing, evaluating, testing and transitioning new technologies to weather teams around the world.

About Us

The Earth System Prediction Capability (ESPC) was formed in 2010, with an updated Charter in 2016, between the original NUOPC partners with the addition of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Energy (DOE), and National Science Foundation (NSF) to improve coordination and collaboration across federally sponsored environmental research and operational prediction communities for scientific development and operational implementation of improved global prediction at the weather-to-climate interface.
